  • 4 cups sweet potatoes, mashed Fresh sweet potatoes, thoroughly mashed.
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk Can use whole or any preferred milk.
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted Unsalted butter is preferred.
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Topping ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar Packed brown sugar for sweetness.
  • 1 cup chopped pecans Can substitute with walnuts or omit.
  • 1/2 cup flour

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, mix the mashed sweet potatoes, sugar, milk, melted butter, beaten eggs, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  • Pour the sweet potato mixture into a greased baking dish.
  • In another bowl, combine the brown sugar, chopped pecans, and flour. Sprinkle this mixture over the sweet potato layer.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-40 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

Notes

Serve warm as a side dish; it pairs well with roasted meats like turkey and ham. For smoother texture, ensure sweet potatoes are thoroughly mashed. Adjust sweetness and add spices as desired. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-5 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
