  • 3 cups mashed sweet potatoes Use freshly mashed or canned sweet potatoes
  • 1 cup sugar Regular granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk Can use whole or low-fat milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened Use unsalted butter for better flavor control
  • 2 large eggs, beaten Helps bind the mixture
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For enhanced flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Balances the sweetness

For the Topping

  • 1 cup pecans, chopped Can substitute with walnuts if desired
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Light or dark brown sugar can be used
  • 1/4 cup flour All-purpose flour works well

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, sugar, milk, butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until well combined.
  • Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
  • In another bowl, mix together the chopped pecans, brown sugar, and flour.
  • Sprinkle this topping over the sweet potato mixture.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-40 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

Notes

Serve warm as a side dish for dinner; it pairs well with roasted meat, turkey, or ham. You can add mini marshmallows for a sweeter twist by adding them in the last 10 minutes of baking.
