  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour Make sure to measure flour correctly.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Experiment with different types of chocolate chips for variety.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  • Add the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden and the centers are soft.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. To maintain moisture, add a slice of bread to the container. Chill the dough for 30 minutes for thicker cookies. Adding nuts or oatmeal can provide a hearty twist.
