  • 1 cup peanut butter Use creamy for a smooth texture or crunchy for added texture.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure to soften fully for a smooth mix.
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate kisses (for topping) Press them onto the bars immediately after baking.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the peanut butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and butter until smooth.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
  • Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan.

Baking

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  • Remove from the oven and immediately press the chocolate kisses onto the top of the bars.
  • Allow to cool in the pan before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

These bars are delicious on their own but can be served with milk or vanilla ice cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to five days. Refrigerate for about a week or freeze for up to three months.
