  • 1 lb ground chicken or turkey Use your preferred protein
  • 1 cup diced bell peppers Any color bell pepper can be used
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari For a gluten-free option, use tamari
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce Optional
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 head lettuce (butter or romaine) Use butter or romaine for the wraps
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • sliced green onions For garnish

Preparation

  • In a large skillet, heat the sesame oil over medium heat.
  • Add the minced garlic and diced bell peppers. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until they start to soften.
  • Add the ground chicken or turkey to the skillet. Cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks.
  • Stir in the shredded carrots, soy sauce, and hoisin sauce (if using). Cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing everything to combine well.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • Carefully separate the lettuce leaves from the head. Scoop a generous amount of the filling into each lettuce leaf and garnish with sliced green onions.

Serving

  • Serve the lettuce wraps on a plate with additional green onions and soy sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

Store leftover filling in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Keep the lettuce leaves separate in a plastic bag to prevent wilting. You can prepare the filling in advance and assemble the wraps closer to mealtime.
