For the Cookie

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure the butter is softened but not melted for better texture.
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed You can make a substitute by mixing white sugar with a little molasses.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar This can be used instead of brown sugar.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips A mix of milk chocolate and dark chocolate chips can provide a rich flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  • In another bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and salt together.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Stir until everything is just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Spread the dough onto a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Shape it into a big round cookie.

Baking

  • Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden and the center is soft.
  • Let it cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature, plain or topped with vanilla ice cream. Great with a drizzle of chocolate sauce or whipped cream. Once cooled, store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days or in the fridge for up to a week.
