Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 4 cups Bread flour or all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet Instant yeast or active dry yeast
  • 1 cup Warm water or milk Use warm liquid, not hot.
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar or honey Supports yeast activation.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 cup Butter or olive oil For the dough.

Garlic Topping

  • 1/2 cup Softened butter For garlic topping.
  • 4 cloves Fresh garlic, finely minced Or use garlic powder.
  • 1/4 cup Fresh parsley, chopped Or dried Italian herbs.
  • 1/4 cup Grated Parmesan or shredded mozzarella Optional for a cheesier topping.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add the warm liquid and melted butter or olive oil, then stir until a rough dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead until it becomes smooth, soft, and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook.
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and leave it in a warm spot until it becomes noticeably puffy and nearly doubles in size.

Topping and Shaping

  • Mix softened butter with minced garlic and chopped herbs. Stir in Parmesan if using.
  • Gently press down the risen dough to release excess air. Divide it into equal portions and shape each piece into a smooth ball. Arrange the rolls in a greased baking dish or a lined baking sheet.
  • Cover the shaped rolls and let them rest until they look light and puffy.
  • Brush the rolls generously with garlic butter. Make a small cut across the top of each roll and spoon in a little more garlic butter.

Baking

  • Bake in a preheated oven until the rolls are puffed and golden brown. Brush them with another layer of garlic butter while they are still warm.
  • Allow the rolls to cool for a few minutes before serving. They are best enjoyed warm when the centers are soft and the garlic butter is fragrant.

Notes

Use fresh garlic for the best flavor. Avoid adding too much flour while kneading for lighter rolls. Brush the rolls with garlic butter both before and after baking.
